What we do for our members
Four pillars of work, one purpose — stronger agricultural and community-based SACCOs, better served farmers and communities.
Pillar 01
Advocacy & Representation
ASCA exists so that agricultural and community-based SACCOs never stand alone before policy. We carry the collective voice of member societies to regulators, national and county government, and development partners.
Every engagement is grounded in what members tell us — and every position we take is tested against the co-operative principles first.
One national voice in policy and regulatory engagement
Stakeholder engagement with government and partners
Positions grounded in member consultation
Pillar 02
Training & Capacity Building
ASCA builds the capacity of member SACCO boards, officers and staff — in governance, compliance and leadership — so that every society serves its members with confidence.
Workshops, forums and peer learning across the alliance membership
Best-practice exchange between member SACCOs
Pillar 03
Research & Innovation
Agricultural co-operative finance is changing — digital tools, new products, new risks. ASCA invests in research and fosters innovation so that member societies lead the change rather than react to it.
Sector research shared across the membership
Innovation that widens financial inclusion
Pillar 04
Building Resilience for Sustainability
Agricultural SACCOs carry the same risks as their members — drought, failed harvests, falling prices and the cash-flow swings of the farming seasons. ASCA helps member societies prepare for these shocks together, through shared initiatives and resource mobilization that no single society could manage alone.
The aim is strong, lasting SACCOs that keep serving their members through good seasons and bad.
Shared approaches to climate, market and liquidity risk
Funds mobilized for climate-smart farming and small-business lending
How We Work
The advocacy cycle
A simple discipline behind every position the alliance takes.
Step 1
Listen to members
Member forums, county engagement and society visits surface the issues that matter on the ground.
Step 2
Represent the alliance
Positions are agreed, then carried to regulators, government and partners with one national voice.
Step 3
Report back
Outcomes return to members through announcements and member communications — closing the loop.
ASCA is not a regulator and does not license or supervise societies — member SACCOs are regulated by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).
Current Priorities
What the alliance is working on now
Five priorities guide the secretariat’s work programme.
Priority 1
Build institutional capability
Roll out targeted training based on needs collected from technical staff in member SACCOs.
Priority 2
Sensitise leadership
Support Boards and CEOs (chief executive officers) to understand policy and regulatory trends.
Priority 3
Engage producer co-operatives
Promote personal financial management, business practices and linkages that improve member economic wellbeing.
Priority 4
Expand membership
Use regional breakfast meetings to mobilise eligible SACCOs and strengthen the Alliance’s collective voice.
Priority 5
Resource Mobilization
Mobilize resources for on-lending targeting climate-smart agriculture, e-mobility and MSME (micro, small and medium enterprise) finance.
